Set Your Business Free With Co-working

For many freelancers and small/start-up businesses working from home is common practice. While a makeshift home office may suffice for the short-term, more often than not it’s not a suitable long-term plan for the ambitious business owner.

So, what other options are there? The first thing that springs to mind is office space, but for most freelancers and startups it is both a financial impossibility and unnecessary. Fortunately, there is an increasingly popular compromise. More and more professionals are opting to use co-working areas rather than working from home or renting an office.

Why co-working?

Simply because co-working areas are specifically designed for the freelancers, startups and small businesses of the world. Co-working areas often provide facilities that just aren’t available at home. They offer conveniences that working from home never could.

For example, here at The Union Building renting co-working space will afford you certain benefits, such as a professional business address, a reception service and access to our purpose-built meeting rooms, to name just a few. All of which positively impacts clients perceptions of your business, while making life easier for you.

Co-working areas also tend to be far more productive working environments, due to the absence of distractions found at home. They are designed with productivity in mind and are equipped with facilities conducive to productivity.

Here at The Union Building, we’ve created a co-working area which is bright, open, spacious and comfortable. Boasting fantastic amenities such as a communal kitchen, fully stocked vending machines, and a rooftop bar/restaurant. All these perks mean that the time you spend here is as enjoyable for yourself as it is productive for your business.

How Your Office Environment Can Affect Employee Productivity

Are you a business owner? If so, the productivity of your employees is probably very important to you. It is no secret that the environment your employees work in has a massive impact on their productivity, though many employers fail to recognize just how much of a difference it can make. Many employers feel that employee productivity is the sole responsibility of the employee i.e. getting enough sleep and eating breakfast. This is true, to an extent, but there are many things that an employer can do to boost productivity.

Some of the common factors that affect an employee’s productivity are;

  • workplace clutter
  • lighting
  • temperature
  • noise
  • communication & relationships

If these factors mentioned aren’t addressed, then the overall well-being of your employees will likely be affected. The happier your employees are, the more productive they are. This simple fact should always be kept in mind, particularly when considering office space.

A study conducted in 2009 suggests that lighting is the primary factor that affects an employee’s productivity. Dim lighting lowers productivity, and fluorescent lighting has been known to cause headaches. At The Union Building, we use state of the art LED lighting that is designed to simulate natural daylight. This innovative new technology is used in all our office space.

Temperature also ranks highly (particularly amongst females) as a factor that affects productivity, which is why all office space at The Union Building is regulated at a constant optimum temperature (typically between 18ºC and 21ºC). This means that if you set your offce temperature to 20ºC, it will stay at 20ºC regardless of the weather outside.

Furniture is another major factor that affects productivity (particularly males). The Union Building offers those who take office space the option of furnishing it themselves, or setting a budget and a specification for us to furnish for you. We have a professional relationship with The Senator Group – one of the top office furniture suppliers in Europe. This connection enables us to furnish your office with high-quality furniture that will ensure your employees are comfortable, and therefore productive.
